Michael Jackson's Body to be Brought To Neverland

It has been confirmed that the remains of Michael Jackson will be driven from Los Angeles to the Neverland Ranch, the pop singer’s home in Santa Barbara County, California on Thursday, July 2.

A public viewing has been scheduled for the following day- July 3 and thousands of fans from all around the globe are expected to troop to the property to pay their last respects to the singer. On Sunday, a private memorial will be held at the property but no details have been revealed as to where the body will be laid to rest. There are strong speculations that Jackson’s body will be buried within the ranch just as the King of Rock, Elvis Presley was buried in his home- Graceland.

The Neverland Ranch is often described as the manifestation of the pop star’s obsession with childhood. The ranch used to have a fully-operational amusement park with a Ferris wheel, a roller coaster, bump cars and other amusement park facilities. The amusement park is no longer operational.

Michael Jackson’s death came as a shock to his family, friends and millions of fans worldwide. The singer died of cardiac arrest on Thursday, June 25. The pop star had been working hard in the last two months, preparing for a sold-out concert tour.

The icon’s death has also resulted in numerous bits information about him being revealed. Recently, fans learned of the patent that Michael Jackson and company filed for “anti-gravity” shoes. The shoe’s patent- 525545- released on October 26, 1993 was for the “method and means to for creating anti-gravity illusion”. Michael Jackson used harnesses and wires when he did his gravity-defying dance moves in the video for Smooth Criminal but the patented shoes were what he used during live performances of the song.

The shoes had specially designed heels that could latch on to a special base that allowed the wearer to lean forward beyond the user’s center of gravity.

EDITED: Jackson's family decided to hold a public memorial for the pop icon at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and not the Neverland Ranch

Now in Stores: iPhone 3G S

The latest iPhone dubbed the iPhone 3G S went on sale last Friday in Apple stores in the United States. The phone is packed with old features that iPhone users have loved since the smart phone’s initial release but it also comes with new features that will make users fall in love with the phone even more.

The new model comes in 2 capacities: 16GB and 32GB. The phone runs on 3G data rate of 7.2Mbps and comes with the new iPhone OS 3.0. The phone also has a 3mega-pixel auto-focus camera, a support for 30fps video-recording and a video editor application. The old iPhone only had a 2 mega-pixel camera. The old and new versions still do not have external flash. The video editor makes it easy for iPhone users to edit videos before sending them directly toYouTube and other video-sharing channels from the phone using MMS.

Another new feature of the phone is the Compass which should be helpful for people who often use maps. Apple also added Voice Control to the phone. Voice control allows no-dial phone calls. The voice command also lets the user play music on his iPhone using only voice commands.

The phone also has a cut, copy and paste feature between applications. The cut, copy and paste application work for words, pictures and videos.

The phone also has an added security feature called Find My iPhone. The service lets you find your phone through a map in the Mobile Me service. You can let you phone play an alert sound so that you can easily find it if you see on the map that it’s nearby. If you left the phone someplace where you can’t get to it right away, you can let it display a message that will help people return it to you. If the phone is not returned safely to you, you can wipe-out important and confidential data from your phone through the remote wipe feature. The remote wipe feature will restore the phone to factory settings.

The iPhone 3G S is being sold for $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the model with the 32GB capacity. Apple also released an 8GB version of the old iPhone for just $99.

Facebook Users Rush to Grab Good Vanity URLs

On Saturday at exactly 12:01 EST, Facebook users rushed to get their vanity URL from the social network. Previously, user accounts on the popular networking site were only identified by random numbers.

In the first three minutes alone, more than 200,000 users were registered on the network. More than 10 minutes later, 500,000 users registered new URLs on the social network. The mad rush on Friday night to secure the best possible URL resulted in 3,000,000 registered URLs by Saturday afternoon.

When Facebook announced that it was offering URLs to Facebook users, it reminded people to think hard about the choosing a good username.

Think carefully about the username you choose. Once it’s been selected, you won’t be able to change or transfer it. If you signed up for a Facebook Page after May 31 or a user profile after today at 3 p.m. EDT, you may not be able to sign up for a username immediately because of steps we’ve taken to prevent abuse or “squatting” on names.”

Still there seems to be more than a handful who decided not to take Facebook’s advice seriously. The following day, this story came out regarding the silliest names that were registered on Facebook during the URL registration rush. One URL was long and didn’t seem to have any logic behind it: http://www.facebook.com/alksjfalskjfoiwefalsdlasfaslleseouaiwejndlsknjkdfs. And what is the most enviable username on the list? http://www.facebook.com/default.aspx .

Facebook’s move to offer customized URL is offering better opportunities for individuals and companies to use the network for its branding efforts. Now, instead of random numbers, users can use their trade names and brands for the URL to help deliver a more consistent marketing and branding message to the public. Vanity URLs also helps people find your profile without the need to do searches. In March, Facebook already allowed the registry of vanity URLs but they were limited to those who knew someone within Facebook or had a business relationship with the company.
This is the first time the company is allowing the public to register their vanity URLs. This is why so many people rushed to get their URLs registered on the site. While there are many who were able to grab their desired URL (including some pretty silly ones) there were also many disappointed users who got beat to their desired usernames by someone else.
